Superstar hacker pod2g along with the rest of Chronic dev has just released Absinthe 2.0 and it is now available for download. With this, millions of people around the world are scrambling to update to Apple’s latest iOS version to Jailbreak their devices. If you’re one of them and looking for some guidance in what to do in order get a jailbroken iOS 5.1.1 iDevice, then look no further, read on because this step by step guide is all you need!

Things you need:

• Your iDevice recently updated or restored to iOS 5.1.1
• Absinthe 2.0 which you can download in the links below:

Windows

Mac

Linux

DIRECTIONS:

• If you haven’t updated yet, plug in your iDevice to your Computer and update to iOS 5.1.1, after updating, unplug your device, set it up for first time use, unplug it.
• Plug in your device again, close itunes if it automatically opens, but don’t unplug your device.
• Download, extract and run Absinthe 2.0 as administrator, in this guide I will be using the Windows version.

• On Absinthe, click on “Jailbreak” and wait for it to finish. Do not touch your iDevice yet!

• Once Absinthe is done, unlock your iPhone, iPad or iDevice. You will now find a Cydia icon in your springboard. Congratulations! You are now Jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1.

Way back then, one would need to use a 3rd party application such as imgburn or win2flash to create a bootable USB installer of past versions of Windows. Both of which are still very good options, but with the imminent release of Microsoft’s latest version of Windows, you don’t need to be “geeky” enough to make one, all you really have to do is download a free application from Microsoft’s site.

This guide will teach you how to make a bootable USB (Flash drive) installer of Microsoft’s Windows 8 Consumer Preview build. You need at least an 8gb Flash Drive for this to work and if you don’t have the ISO yet, click this link and download the Windows 8 version you want to install.

I will be using the 64-bit version in this guide, please take note that you will need a 64-bit capable processor (CPU) in order to use the 64-bit version of Windows 8. If you already have the Windows 8 ISO, click this link to download Microsoft’s Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool (Don’t worry, it will work perfectly with a Windows 8 ISO).

What you need:

• 8gb (Minimum size) USB Flash Drive
• Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO
• Windows 8 USB/DVD Download Tool

DIRECTIONS:

• Install Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool:

• After installing, open Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool and click on Browse:

• Go to the directory or folder in your PC where you downloaded the Windows 8 Consumer Preview ISO, in my case it’s in my Windows 7 Downloads folder under my username which is “X”:

• After choosing your ISO, click on USB Device and choose the letter of your USB Flash Drive you wish to use as your Windows 8 USB installer:

• It will ask you to erase your USB Device

• Just click through the prompts, please take note that it will erase the entire contents of your USB device so make sure you have all its contents backed up.

It will take about 5 to 10 minutes depending on the speed rate of your flash drive but once it’s done, you’re all set, so congratulations!, you just made a Windows 8 USB Installer.

You  may now browse to your newly created Windows 8 installer, click on setup and choose the upgrade option (and retain most of your files and documents) via Windows or go to your bios, set it up to boot via USB and and make a clean format and install.

Popular Jail-Breaker pod2g has recently posted via his twitter account account that a newer version of his popular jailbreaking tool ‘Absinthe’ will be released in the next couple of days. It has also been said and confirmed that it will now be able to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 on the iPhone 4 (GSM, CDMA), iPhone 3Gs, iPhone 4S, iPad 1, iPad 2 (Wifi, GSM, CDMA) and several other devices. Stay tuned for a step-by-step guide once it becomes available. In the meantime, if you’re still on iOS 5.0.1, we suggest you download the specific iOS 5.1.1 IPSW for your iDevices now since most sources will probably be hammered once the new version of Absinthe comes out!

If there is (was?) one thing that made millions of iOS device users envy their Android packing friends it would be Android’s gorgeous implementation of widgets. This and of course many more.

Dashboard X by cjori is a Cydia tweak that can somehow fill the lack-of-widgets void that has been haunting iOS ever since Android phones started having awesome widgets. For only a mere $1.99 inside the Cydia Store this tweak gives users the ability to add widgets to any page in their springboards.

Right now, there’s a twitter widget, a calendar widget as well as a few “settings” widgets available, you can also use widgets built for iOS’ Notification Center and the ones built into Intelliscreen X.

While it is a very good tweak as it is, it does have flaws, one thing that really annoyed me after purchasing Dashboard X was that I expected too much from the get go. For example when you try to place a widget on one of the pages of your springboard, it will just cover application icons and won’t automatically move them elsewhere since iOS places application icons from the top to the bottom automatically. I however got through this hassle by installing another Cydia tweak called gridlock which enabled me to move my icons to wherever I wanted to place them.

There’s a very limited number of available widgets (for now?) although I’m sure as more devs sees Dashboard X’s potential, more will come and Dashboard X will only get better.

Today I came across this nifty little tweak from Cydia called Zeppelin, and I know I am probably a little too late to be writing about it since this particular tweak has been out on Cydia for a quite some time now.

However, to those of you who haven’t heard of or ever imagined an awesome tweak like this even exists, Zeppelin by jivhg is an absolutely free mobile substrate tweak that replaces your oh so boring mobile operator   logo with a set of available logos, plus you’ll be able to add more from available Zeppelin logo packages in Cydia.

There really isn’t much to say about it other than what I already have and in this particular post I hope a couple of pictures (screenshots) will paint a thousand words for you.
